Ticking noise
My 2012 250 (Fuel Inj.) has about 44 000 miles, and for the last 4000-5000 miles, it has gradually developed a ticking noise from the engine.
In the beginning, I could only hear this sound under special acoustical conditions, like when driving through some tunnel. Now I hear it most of the time when driving the bike.. I believe it's a sound from some metal part periodically touching some other (metal ?) part. It tends to follow the RPMs of the engine, but increases in intensity when between gears. If I'm increasing the RPMs when not driving, and quickly return the throttle, I can also hear the noise briefly - before it more or less diminishes. Sounds quite similar to this case: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWvtRoj_iHU This is the only odd sound from the engine. I doubt that's it's coming from an exhaust leak, which might also be suspected. In about 2500 miles of driving distance from now, it's time to have it serviced again. If it's the cam chain tensioner causing the noise - is it recommended to have it repaired as quickly as possible? Any other ideas about what could cause the ticking sound? |

My guess is the timing chain is making the noise.

Yes. Thanks. I found this thread https://www.ninjette.org/forums/show...ight=tensioner
Hope that the tensioner could be fixed or replaced, to cure the problem, and that I don't have to replace the timing chain and/or additional parts. |

It didn't make much noise according to him, and I expect that he has quite some experience with motorcycle engines. I'll provide an update after it has been replaced.. (I started hearing the tiny metallic noise at around 40 kmiles (60+ kkm). It's now approaching 44500 miles / 72000 km.) |
