On the Lookout for any EX250 Gas Tanks
Hey yall,
Wanted to give a quick project update. Cleaned the carbs and got some brand new gaskets. Bike starts right up now However, regarding the gas tank, I think it's too far gone. The rust ate the tank from the inside-out, and there are multiple holes in the tank. I was wondering if yall know a good place or have any EX250 gas tanks for a fair price. The ones on eBay seem pricey despite having dings/rust. Thanks, Ron |

Ebay is probably your best option. I've seen several on there recently.
Good Luck!! |

Still have the tank?
I'm looking and am located in MA! Restored a bike that had been sitting for my daughter ... runs great but gas tank is gone!

a perfect sales tool for the use of POR-15 early, way prior to evidence of rust

I think these tanks are just low quality. The bike was given to me and trailing it home it literally cracked and spilled what old gas was left. The section above the seat paper thin. I picked up a parts bike same thing -- paper thin in the same spot. I attempted to weld it in several places and cremed it but pinholes at the seam. It's shot ... 0/2

Not arguing about these tanks being very thin, but phenolic epoxy liner is the way to go if you want to line a tank. Caswell sells one they call "Phenol Novolac". I've seen and hefted a tank lined with this stuff, and there was a layer of epoxy that was thick enough to actually strengthen it.
Phenolic epoxy is used to line huge commercial storage tanks. |

Appreciate the tip may give it a go if I can't find a donor. Was hoping to put money into a replacement tank rather than more restoration of the current disaster which is also now nice and ugly with my DIY repairs! My daughter digs the bike too! The red line on these little things makes them super fun. |

Of course if you try the phenolic epoxy, follow the prep instructions. It's known to stick well when done correctly.

applied POR-15 (actually a 3 part process) in my '95 Ducati 900ss tank in September of 2010....the stuff flat out works.
Whichever you decide to use....I'll agree to adhere to every letter of the written product rules. BTW.....96 hours to totally dry the POR, prior to use. Yup....4 DAYS of drying/setup time, right outta the instructions.
