I ****ing hate sanding. It's a horrible pain in the ass. I'm also probably going to die early from all this plastic dust lol.
Some in progress pics of the fairing repair. Sanded the areas around the cracks, filled them in, and then sanded it once it dried. Unfortunately my canister of ABS cement was drying out when I used it on this so it was kinda lumpy and it definitely shows. I'll go back over with some fresh ABS cement to help fill it in better. As it is though, it's quite a bit of improvement over what I had earlier. |

Repaired, sanded smooth, and ready for painting! It's not a perfectly even surface since I couldn't move some of the major cracks back into the original position so i just evened it out the best I could with the ABS cement. In any case, while it might not be even, it's still smooth. I skipped the areas that won't show.
Sanding down all the other pieces was relatively quick and easy since repairs weren't needed. Hopefully I have time to spray everything tomorrow. Also still need to make new mounting tabs for one fairing; despite being cosmetically perfect, two out of four of the tabs had broken off. |

This thread and your rebuild are awesome. And they are part of my inspiration to get my bikes all fixed up. Too bad I'm living in a dorm, next year I'm totally renting a house so I can have a garage for winter projects. Oh and not having to store my bike 120 miles away from here is cool too. Anyways good luck with your further endeavors, can't wait to see how your 300 turns out!

My fairings are all now kawi green as they should be All rattle-canned with colorite primer/colorcoat and u-pol clearcoat. I chose to go with a different clearcoat because I read bad reviews about the colorite clearcoat and how it tends to yellow. I'll polish it completely smooth later when the paint has had more time to dry thoroughly. The fairing that had been cracked is in the pictures on the left side.
Primer Colorcoat Clearcoat And yes that is my phone case there because why the hell not? |

Changed the front tire to a DRII using the cheapskate method. Broke the bead with c-clamps, removed and mounted the wheel with a few tire irons, and balanced the wheel with the axle on the bike. That was a major pain in the ass and one hell of a workout lol. I'm sore now...

Oh hey, my 300 actually looks like a bike now. I probably could ride it in it's current state (once I put in some brake fluid anyway...)
Finished dealing with all the control stuff. I didn't bother to drill holes in the bars and opted to grind off the nub inside the throttle housing instead. Still need to readjust the clip-ons yet again because I can't seem to make them even. Zero Gravity Corsa windscreen in light smoke Putting together the tail end was fun. Since I kinda ****ed up the rear rather badly, stuff wasn't quite lining up well. Granted I'm still using the same damaged undertail so that could be part of the problem. In any case, while there are obvious gaps and it's uneven, I did managed to get everything bolted on without major fairing bending so I guess that's really all I can hope for considering the sorry state it was in. Sadly my paint job doesn't quite match up. You can tell the right tail piece (rider POV) is the one I painted. I can't be bothered to deal with that **** anymore though so w/e. I haven't finished a final polish on everything I painted. I'll go deal with it later since I can just do that when the fairings are on the bike. I didn't realize I hadn't tightened the header bolts until I turned on the bike and it seemed oddly loud from the wrong area, especially since I had put the muffler back on. I really want to change out the stock exhaust now because the heat shield and rearsets don't mix well. I put everything on, but the heat shield actually blocks part of the rearset. No money for a nice exhaust right now though so I'll have to save that mod for later. Tested the turn signals. Right one is out. Not surprising since the bike went down on that side, although still a bit strange considering how the turn signal only has minor marks on it. The left turn signal just turns on and doesn't blink. I'm guessing I ****ed up reconnecting the lights then? |

Went on a test ride!
Well it works, but the front brake is rubbing on the rotor. There is a constant squealing as the front wheel turns. Could it just be alignment? How easily does the rotor warp? When I was changing the tire, the wheel slipped off the wood blocks I was using a few times while the rotor side was face down... |

I'll probably take a picture of the not as good looking side later. I didn't replace the cracked dash fairing and it couldn't be repaired in the same way as the other fairings so it's duct-taped together The fairing stay is still slightly off so the fairings don't quite line up well and the right side has massive gaps.

Took apart and put back together the whole front end again. Went from constant rubbing to very slight rubbing on just a small section. Tested it again a little later without making any adjustments and now it spins freely. Well ok then.

I spoke too soon. I think it's still rubbing. Sure makes a lovely squealing sound as I walk the bike. The brakes work but they feel like ****. It feels firm while stopped but terrible while moving. Instead of the lever stopping halfway from braking like while stopped, it goes all the way to the handle.

The heat shield wasn’t fitting too well so I didn’t put it back on. The rearset is slightly in the way. I have a replacement part for the broken/scuffed black plastic holding the front turn signal but have been too lazy to actually put it on haha. I also really need to finish smoothing out the paint on the fairing pieces I painted… |

I carried around way too much **** while riding all day just because I could. Trunk space is awesome. It also means I now have all the room under the seat for charging gadgets as needed. I can keep a GoPro battery charging under the seat the whole time!
Also heated glove liners are ****ing amazing. I rode two hours on the highway in the cold at night to get home and I never got the slightest bit cold. WHY DIDN'T I GET HEATED GEAR SOONER?! |
