Is it worth it to upgrade from a 250r to a 300?

I've had my lovely 09 250r since 2012. I've had a lot of people ask why I don't "upgrade" meaning get a higher CC bike, but I've always felt the 250 has enough power and the only true upgrades would be things like EFI, ABS, slipper clutch. The thing is, the carbs don't really give me much too much of a headache, I've only locked up the rear once in 12 years, and a slipper was never really necessary. Although I don't fully know the impact of those features since I've never had them.

Well I found a Ninja 300 that looks to be in decent condition for $1700. Thats impulse buy kinda pricing and I'm confident I'd be able to get that same amount for my 250r. Its got 14K miles vs my 250s 20k. Are the small upgrades and lower mileage worth the effort of registering/insuring a new bike and going to the trouble of selling mine, or should I just keep riding it till it dies (probably never as long as I don't get hit)

What advice do you all have? What would you do in my situation?

I'd probably stick with my 250. One reason is that I know it's in good condition and isn't going to be an unexpected project like a used vehicle usually is, at least to some extent. The 300 I rode had a little more low end torque, and was a little less revvy, but otherwise not terribly different.

I will answer this since I now have BOTH bikes.

I have a 2004 250r and a 2014 300 ABS SE. Two totally different bikes. The 250 feels more like a classic to me. Capable. Fun to ride. Remember this is 1988 Tech that was never changed. Even with the newer ones the motor is almost exactly the same, just newer style fairings.

The 300 is smoother shifting, smoother accelerating, smoother to ride (the seat is not as comfortable though). It has ABS brakes. I love both of the bikes.

My wife does not like riding on the 300 leaning with the tiny triangle seat. She does not mind riding 2up on the 250.

I think the Ninja 300 feels bigger all around also. The 250 def feels smaller to me. I am 6'3" and 215lbs

Highway riding the 300 is way more capable and feels more at home there to me. The 250 feels like it is maxed out at around 70mph. The 300 just cruises at highway speeds. Neither is fast, but I think you get the idea. Both are high RPM engines.

Also the 300 is Fuel Injected! No Choke, no warm up time. Jump on and go!

I love both bikes but if you are asking which is "better", If I had to choose one for a long ride, I would grab the 300. Truthfully, I don't see myself ever parting with my 2014 300 ABS.
