sprocket position?

I revomed my front sprocket and didn't pay attention when I was doing it. Now I noticed that each side of the sprocket is different, one side is flat and the other side has a collar or whatever is called. So my question is, which side is suppose to be facing out?

Thanks in advanced.

Master Kelly,

I got a 15t sprocket today and wanted to throw it on (and also ride before it got dark). Anyone run into an issue with getting the sprocket cover off? I have the shop manual and can see that it should easily come off. I just decided to take advantage of the day and go riding the gap so i put the bolts back in and went.

Drew,

The sprocket cover can get "glued" on by the excess chain lube that gets flung up under there. After removing all the bolts for that cover, give it a smack with a piece of 2x4 held up against it and a hammer. That should loosen the cover.

how did you know I worked in a bait shop?

Great, thanks Kim.

I just needed a little more "persuasion" to get the cover off.

Good thing I had a breaker bar and extension. The nut holding the sprocket was like welded on!

Cheers
